I have my wireless router at the very top of the house, in the loft , and my wii connects

fine right at the bottom of the house, and that's in a big ole victorian house with thick walls and high ceilings and that - so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

Most, if not all, wireless routers also have ports in them to connect a computer via a wire, so you wouldn't have to buy a wireless card for your computer - but you could if you wanted.

I think the xbox is clever enough to connect to the wireless network without needing a computer as well - so really all you need is the xbox, and a wireless router.
