I inferred that from the statement "my new poem" which indicated he was the author.

I realised that it could also imply that he has just discovered the work and felt it in a possessive sense, however there was no way that I was going to miss out on such a chance for pedantry.

My "own" effort:-

I once knew a girl from Kildare,
I was shagging her up on the stair.
When the bannister broke,
I doubled my stroke
and I finished her off in mid air.
