Paul Jewell Or Paul Ince For Me
I think we desperately need to go the next "step up" from the usual candidates-the Martin Allen, Micky Adams et al school. Someone said last night that a guy on ChavSport had said he thought Norwich would be a step down for Jewell and was countered by the presenter saying it wasn't, as Norwich were in a false position and "were worthy" of a Manager like Jewell-badly paraphrased, but you get the idea. Anyway...
...I'm hoping that the influence of the Turners will go some way to this decision and pending appointment being a little more ambitious (that word again) and forward thinking than may have been the case before. It doesn't guarantee anything, of course, but you'd like to think if the intent is there and presented to the would-be Manager, then all else -including good use of available funds-would follow.
Both Jewell and Ince would raise the clubs profile, and, you would hope, encourage players to come here who might not have previously considered it. I actually think Ince is a non-starter anyway-he's only just gone to MK Dons and he's on a good thing there-but it wouldn't hurt just sounding him out, mind you, if he was a success with us, who's to say he wouldn't then move on and use us as a stepping stone as well-then again, if he was a success and left us in a healthy position on the pitch, would that be a bad thing, as it would then encourage a good manager to follow him,etc etc....
Other names that spring to mind for me are Dave Penney, Tony Mowbray (Hibs Manager, though he'd hardly leave there I guess!) and someone like ex-Liverpool manager Roy Evans alongside a younger coach, much as Watford have been successful with Burkinshaw and Bothroyd.
