Believe me, they are far nicer if fresh in a good olive region. If you're

ever in North-East Italy for example, give them another chance. I hated olives for years until I tried them there and they were beautiful. Not the bland, bitter stuff you find in some supermarkets, but really full of taste.

I now buy mine from a local Italian deli.
