Earnie get out clause
Whilst it is probably correct for the club to say he would not have signed without the clause that for me is passing over the key point out of all this which is why were we in a position where having sold Ashton we left it to the last day of the transfer window to sign up his replacement and therefore had to agree to such a clause because if we missed out on Earnie we would have got nobody.
Its a direct result of the shambolic (or even non-existent) approach to transfers and signing palyers at the club throughout the Worthington era. Sam Alladyce was spot on with his comments and this little incident has proved it. As did the whole Linvoy Primus saga a couple of seasons ago.
Thankfully PG seems to be a bit mor epro-active with his identification and targetting of new signing early in the summer but the Sharp saga still leaves big question marks in my mind about our tactics and ability to negotiate with other clubs/agents over deals where other clubs are in the running.
If we want Eastwood then give Southedn what they want and speak to the player. If he doesn't want to come then move on. But please god can we stop going in with these insutling bifds or "expressions of interest" that get us nowhere and enable players and agents to string us along for weeks and then us having to panic buy when they go elsewhere.
I am not actually that downbeat about losing Earnie and replacing him with Cureton and I do believe Grant knows what he wants to do and is trying his hardest to do it. However what I did hope was that the sale of Earnie would give us the substantial sum needed to sort the midfield and defence. I sincerely hope that we do have that money otherwise next season could be another difficult one.
