why get Cureton in now?

he doesn't seem on the verge of going somewhere else and I suspect we view him as a backup option if we don't get Sharp. So why get him in now when if we DO get Sharp we will have wasted money doing so? Why not wait and see what happens with Sharp (as we are doing)?
