Global warming

Plants use up carbon dioxide in photosynthesis but generate it (as do all living things) through respiration. The carbo cycle shows that carbon dioxide is removed by photosynthesis and dissolving in the oceans where it forms carbonic acid that reacts with calcium containing compounds to form carbonates that make up reefs and the shells of shell fish. carbon is returned to the atmosphere as carbon dioxide by respiration, the burning of fossil fuels and volcanic eruptions which were the original major source of it in the atmosphere of the early Earth.
