Our defence

Derby`s victory today shows the importance of a solid defence and the main reason why we have failed to take advantage of the parachute payments - our failure to strengthen our defence. We lose but do not replace Green. We have continued to rely on a weak central defence. This season we conceded 71 goals - only the relegated 3 and Barnsley conceded more. .

Unless Grant shows by his future transfer dealings that he realises that our defence is our greatest weakness then I fear for our and his future. Unfortunately in giving Drury ( a player who is a pale shadow of his former self) a 4 year contract and taking up our contract option on Docherty (a player who symbolises our failings ) I fear that Grant is not singing from the correct songsheet.
