Quad-core etc. is fine as far as it goes

but like 64-bit OS' you still need the programs written to take advantage of the technology, and (so far) very few of them do.

OS-X has one major advantage as far as stability etc. goes, and that is the incredibly small pool of technology it has to interact with. If Apple don't sell it, it doesn't go in a Mac. With Windows, the possible permutations of hardware is staggering. For example, games don't run as well in Vista as they do in XP, simply because, and nVidia and ATI haven't had the time (yet) to figure everything out. When they do, they have to find something that works with not only 2-3 generations of cards, but all the other hardware involved.

Quad-core etc. is becoming more achievable now as Intel and AMD move to smaller processes; they're down to about 45nm, and moving towards 30nm. You wonder just how much further they can push it.
