Firstly, serves you right for buying a Compaq.

Secondly, you may not have a physical recovery disc. Some manufacturers supply the OS, etc. as a seperate hidden partition on your hard drive. Which is totally f**king useless if your hard drive fries. Bear in mind that it may not necessarily solve your problem anyway!

Thirdly, what happens when you press the button, anything? Do the lights come on? Do you get a POST screen? What point does it freeze at? Does it always freeze at the same point?
