Depends what you're drinking.

If you're drinking blood, straight after is fine. Otherwise, I'd wait a day or so.

If just before you go in you start to feel a bit squeamish but don't want to admit it, just have unprotected anal sex with a few men. That way you can tell the nurse who screens you and avoid the pain of the needle.
