what unions are there to do - yes. They exist to ensure their members get as big a share of profit as possible. The employers and the tories pull in the opposite direction.
My point though is that, if there was a necessity to restructure the economy that was not the way to do it. France, Germany, Scandinavia didn't do it like that and they did ok - and without the two catastrophic recessions and property boom/slump.
I doubt we'll see the likes of Thatch and her gang again. Unless you're a mentalist, it's now virtually impossible for a gov't to use the economy in such a nakedly self interested and political way,
