Matth?us (get the spelling right this time ...) was such an arrogant prick in everything he did that, despite captaining a successful national side, everyone hated him. Stefan Effenberg had much the same attitude and therefore effect on his countrymen. Don't know about Ribbeck really; but they all love Klinsi ...

Have you ever seen the video of Trappatoni losing it at a press conference when he managed Bayern? His parting shot of "ich habe fertig" (should be "ich bin fertig") became legendary in Germany and was used on SPD posters of a glum looking Kohl during the elections of 1998.
