I once thought the public should vote on every issue

i.e. using mobile phone texting technology to vote on all bills passing through parliament (or proposed invasions!) but then I realised that actually, 85% of the genreal population are so poorly informed about most issues, that it would never work. It's a shame, because then we could have a real democracy, and do away with politicians. Sadly the intelligence of the average voter is too low to do the right thing, when the right thing is not necessarily easy thing to do. It's that old adage - stupid people in large groups are dangerous things (or whatever it is).
