I still think the board could do more

I have no idea if the board are aware of their shortcomings. If they were, they might do be a bit more proactive about solving problems rather than trying to appease fans with 'spin' which merely pisses them off more.

And in response to your four points.....

1) I agree that it turns the manager into a head coach, but it reduces the risk that he ends up having the judgment of a turnip in the transfer market. It's up to the board to decide the level of risk they're prepared to accept - if they want to back an inexperienced manager to the hilt, then some may judge that as high risk. But if that's what they want to do - then they live by it - it's their money.
2) I agree again. But it's a question of risk again. Signing S**t on long term contracts means we're stuck for years on end, with the s**t having no incentive to perform. Offering shorter contracts with more incentives reduces the probability we end up with s**t who don't give a toss if they perform or not (and more to the point players like MLJ who can't be arsed to get fit).
3) I merely say this point as the transfer window shafts any ambitious club who are risk averse and short on cash. Any player with any sort of reputation who becomes available it made known by the agent to every club in the Prem/Championship of note and it turns into a bidding war - paying over the odds for semi-decent player - who may or may not be arsed to perform. Finding the likes of a Bowen/Crook/Culverhouse/Townsend/Sherwood/Linighan/Phelan again has to be our aim.
4) Why are schoolboys across Norfolk so S**T at football???!!! There MUST be guys out there who can play and make it!
