I have a theory
In the era of wall to wall football you can see the best (La Liga and Prem top six) and the worst (most of the rest of the Prem) and turn it off if it is boring.
The expectation for entertainment is too great and memories too selective. Even in the glory days of the early 90s there were some seriously crap performances (usually against Palace Wimbledon and Spurs)
I think this is why fans turn quickly on the players.
On a second point, given the tightness of the Championship this year Boards up and down the country must be spending December debating "do we risk a quick fix and gamble some millions in the transfer window or do we act with prudence and risk missing out on the promised land. Not one for the fainthearted orreckless.
