but that's perfectly acceptable English as I was speaking in the past tense, and used the preceding word "had" which verified the grammatical structure of the sentence.

Try typing it into Word and using the grammar checker if you like - you might learn something.

That's the problem with boy scouts, they think they're more worldly wise than they actually are - where were you stationed.....Isle of Wight?
