Judging by my searches this morning it seems that Marketing lectures
are a common vector for the Nova myth.
Many years ago, a product I worked on had the unappealing internal name of UFFE (User Friendly FRont End). The first three characters are the acronym of a Loyalist paramilitary organisation, so that was a no go. The preferred choice was GIFT (Graphical InterFace Technology) - implying a present of some sort and also descriptive of what it was. Neat. Unfortunately, while "gift" is also the word for marriage in Scandinavian languages, it's also the word for poison (and in German) ...
We never did find a good marketing name for it; but, anyway, we only ever sold it to NU who sponsored it's development.
