It was actually just a joke, based on his reputation ....

I always thought that he was a solid enough player when he played at the back, not the best but steady. I wouldn't be particularly keen to see him as manager, but the truth is none of us can be entirely sure how any of these candidates would work out. Some managers can be ridiculously poor at certain clubs then go on and do well at others. I think a lot of it depends on the players buying in to the managers idea's, personality etc

I guess the point I'm making is just because in your opinion Newman was a poor player, doesn't necessarily mean he'd be a poor manager.
