Something like that, yes.
I recommend the books to anyone who likes a good escapist fantasy.
"The Straw Men", "The Lonely Dead" and "Blood of Angels" all by Michael Marshall (he used to write as Michael Marshall Smith, kind of sci-fi tinged stuff, but he appears to have dropped the Smith in an attemp to distance himself from sci-fi geekery).
It's a trilogy, sort of, which starts out as a serial killer thriller, every bit as good as Silence of the Lambs, IMO, but evolves into a larger global conspiracy thing.
