basically if it had become a bidding war Ippo could never have won. I'd have been well pissed off if we'd spent 1m on this guy who would be a backup unless Ashton leaves, and if Ashton does leave he wouldn't be a good enough first choice.

So, if we bid 500 grand and they accepted - great buy, future star, fantastic. If they wanted more (which they did) it would be a ridiculous price to pay for someone who would sit on the bench most of the season.

So, I was interested, yes, but certainly not upset about not getting him!
