Any techy nerds about?

I'm trying to get hold of something to attach my 4 speakers to that I can also plug phono socket DAB radio/laptop and tv into.

I've been advised by a spotty 16yr old in a shop to buy an amplifier for over 100quid. I thought I might be able to just buy an adapter (from speaker cables to phono phono sockets or headphone socket).

Am I right, do these exist?

If not, I've found a s**tty alba cd player that might be able to do what I want. But wtf does the following mean:
