I said you should always try to achieve the best you can. That should be everyone's goal in any sport. You try to achieve the best possible, to win every league you play in. You might not succeed (after all everyone else is trying to do the same) but you have to do your best.

Was the promotion season dull? We weren't a great team and didn't play great football. But we were successful and that made it fantastic for fans. Ironically by NOT being established in ther Prem we actually increase our chances of having a party. The best they can hope for is to come 6th or 7th and qualify for Europe. Do you get an open top bus tour for that? 3 teams from this divison will get promoted and have a hell of a party. Will Charlton? You always want success but these days maybe not TOO much ;0)

If you stay solvent it might seem dull but it should guarantee that you always have a shot at being among the contenders in this pretty even division. For the alternative look at the state Ipswich are in.
