No one forces people to go to a Carling Cup tie - if you choose to you surely have to accept these days that you aren't going to see anything like a full strength team. Is that sufficient cause to potentially bugger up your league season (which unfortunately in the modern game is almost everything).

I don't like the way cup cometitions have been sidelined but they have - there isn't much glory to be had in the Carling Cup (maybe for the likes of Grimsby for whom even Newcastle reserves is a big game but not for a team like us). We're on to a hiding to nothing - potential for disastrous injuries for little potential gain.
