is the non-democratic pro-Western leaders most Arab states have, installed and propped up by the West because it is easier to control unelected individuals than whole populations. And we need to control the area because our oil comes from there.

You get a lot of crap written about how Islamist fanatics (who are NOT nice or the good guys incidentally) want to "threaten our way of life". They don't care how we live. Their actions such as 9/11 and Israel and mainly designed to goad the US and Israel into actions that will turn the populations of Arab states against their pro-Western dictators.

Funny how the 9/11 bombers nearly all came from Saudi Arabia, the area's most Islamic state and totalitarian with it. But the 'Axis of Evil' George Bush declared included Iraq (nothing to do with it) and Iran (also nothing to do with it, and also one of the most democratic/advanced countries in the region)
