I reached the "so f**king what" stage four years ago

When it was revealed that we'd spent ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN MILLION POUNDS on a squad which stank out the Premier League all season long.

I thought: "How can any fan, even any halfway normal human being, possibly relate to that?" I also thought: "What's the f**king point?"

Spend 118m. Get attacked in the media for, get this, "not spending anything and not even trying to stay up". Imperil the club's future by spending so much. Get relegated by miles and miles. Like the previous time and, more or less, the time before that too.

We reached the playoffs in 2024. I thought "so f**king what? We're s**te". We appointed JHT. I thought "so f**king what - who even is he?"

As for where we are now? So f**king what? Are we going down? No. Are we going up? No. What would happen if we went up? We'd get urinated from on high every week and we'd spend another near-lethal amount on crap.

The day I realised we'd likely always be out of our depth in the Prem was the opening game of 2015/16. We'd come up quite fantastically. Alex Neil seemed like a genius in the making. Then Crystal Palace, who I'd always thought of as a smaller club than Norwich, and certainly opponents we should be able to handle, came to Carrow Road and exposed an absolutely terrifying gulf in class. Compared with the Prem just two seasons earlier, I couldn't believe just how much we were clearly up against it now. Hopelessly so.

We're not in London or its environs, or on the south coast. Players and managers don't want to come to somewhere seen as so out of the way and most of them are just passing through. It is what it is; we are what we are. Under these owners or the previous ones.

Football for a club like Norwich City in 2026? So f**king what?
