This is my opinion, FWIW: Stokes feels burnt out, wants to get out. He’s quite impulsive and reacts the way he did. ECB enjoyed Broad’s retirement in 2023, wanted to make a bit of a splash, so stage managed the event; misguided and unnecessary in my view. No sinister machinations, no conspiracy.

New Zealand got a bit lucky yesterday, played very well though. Mitchell got hit but didn’t get any deliveries that were unplayable so was able to grind out the runs. This morning, the run out - that’s just great play and a gamble by Root that Nicholls wouldn’t pull off a 1% xW (yes, I just made that up). Shit happens.
