As Stokes has recently found with his batting - you can't outrun the game it is evil and will come and get you if you don't treat it with respect. The NZ team are the best example of maximising your skills and being able to both attack and defend properly - and being able to read a game situation and respond.
Something has happened behind the scenes that as massively pissed Stokes off so he threw a bomb into the whole thing and basically told them to f**k themselves -
