oh no, not that "Sven's formation" excuse again!!

France played 4-5-1 and looked great. portugal only played with one striker. There was nothing in our formation that needed to leave Rooney isolated. With Hargreaves playing Gerrard and Lampard (as well as Joe Cole) were free to support Rooney as other countries' midfielders did. They didn't do their job properly. Everyone complained that playing together ina 4-4-2 restricted Lampard & Gerrard's ability to go forward (their world-class strength!) so Sven provided them the opportunity to do what they are supposed to do best, and they totally let him down.
And incidentally, we played 4-4-2 in the group games and looked no better so why anyone thinks the 4-5-1 was the problem is beyond me.
