Usable paint may be reused
Some areas send good leftover paint into reuse schemes such as Community RePaint, where it is sorted and redistributed to households, charities or community groups. That depends on local arrangements and whether the paint is still usable.
Unusable liquid paint is treated as hazardous waste
It is normally collected by a specialist contractor, separated by type, and either treated, recycled where possible, or sent for energy recovery/disposal. Solvent-based paints are more problematic than ordinary water-based emulsion.
