Bulls**t that he didn't know it was against the rules. What about the lad who spied, or the assistant? Almost certain that they were doing it in more games than just the 3 they've admitted to. How can they allow potential promotion in those circumstances? There would be uproar. Eckert has to be facing an FA charge and many Saints fans want him sacked.
