i was reading today about michael portillo who was brought up in spain

(real name; Miguel Portillo y Blyth) with his father to learn the language.

He told the Guardian: "Spain was markedly poorer than Britain. There was no running water in the villages, and people routinely travelled by horse and cart, even in Madrid.

"Of course, I loved to go around on a pony and trap; it was fantastic. But on the whole, I didn't get on with the food. I used to exist on custard, largely."
