But given the refereeing in this tournament you can't be surprised.

I'm convinced it was a deliberate stamp though - he looks down, places foot on player's leg (Ends up on bollocks) and leans down. The referee's approach several times during the game was to segregate the offender from the melee and then discipline him, so I guess only he knows which incident he sent Rooney off for.

Oh, and as all the refs speak English and I doubt Rooney speaks Portugese, I reckon he knows exactly what was said between the two.
