I agree that AI is currently overhyped and widely misunderstood. However

autonomous weapons already exist and are not hypothetical. While humans design, train, and deploy AI systems, once deployed many can operate without further human input for extended periods. Loitering munitions, air-defense systems that automatically acquire targets, and drone swarms that coordinate without direct control are not science fiction but present-day reality. Given the pace of technological progress, including advances like quantum computing, this is not something to be complacent about.
