the responsibility lies with the retailer not the courier so go after them
if you bought on debit card try "chargeback" with your bank, it's piss easy to do. i did this succesfully recently and got £385 back same day for a company that sent out the wrong sized car part and then ghosted me. don't waste your time going after the courier.

if you paid on credit card then try going after the retailer using section 75 legislation:
Key Features of Section 75 Protection
Joint Liability: Your credit card company is jointly and severally liable with the retailer for any breach of contract or misrepresentation.
Cost Range: The cash price of the goods or services must be over £100 and no more than £30,000.
This limit applies to a single item or a set sold as one item (like a dining table and chairs), not the total bill if individual items are under £100.
Part Payment is Covered: You don't need to pay the full amount on your credit card; paying even a deposit (as long as the total price of the item is within the limits) means the entire purchase amount is protected.
Covered Issues: Protection applies if the goods are faulty, not as described, not delivered, or if the company you bought from goes out of business.
Coverage: It covers purchases made in the UK and overseas, online, or in-store.
Time Limit: You can typically make a claim up to six years from the date of purchase.
in short, forget trying to dig out the courier they'll never cough up. the responsibilty for refunding lies solely with the retailer.
