A lot depends on your beer preferences and where you’re staying …
If near Unthank Road the excellent Hop Rocket is well worth a visit, but it does get full. The Pear Tree Inn is useful for late drinks but it’s full of young people (under 40) so that may influence your choice.
Heading towards the football ground from there is the Trafford Arms on Trafford Street, with an excellent selection of beers and that. Then closer still there’s the King’s Arms on Hall Road, formerly known as the Pub Of Dreams on here.
I’d also mention the Sir Toby’s beer stall on the market, especially if the weather’s good, and the Bier Draak on King Street, run by the same people. Small places serving a ridiculous amount of bottled and tap beers.
