Comparing our business with theirs...

I've thought we've looked to sign players who, on paper (and YouTube) seem to be exactly what we've needed.

I still get a slight pang when we have so much churn of key players that we'll end up having a window more like the David Střihavka one where the prospect of getting in a whole bunch of unknowns means we end up with a bunch of guff.

That said, our recent track record of getting players just before they break through hasn't been bad, but the rate of churn is going to make everything tougher.

Can't say I'm overly optimistic tbh. But the signings, in theory all look sensible. Just a question of how quickly and if they settle and gel.

With Ipswich, it'll be interesting to see. I think they've underestimated how important a gelled, winning side was in their rapid ascent. It'll also be more of a man management task keeping everyone happy with key players leaving and newbies on significantly more cash than the ones who got them there.

They seem to be pretty confident that Hirst will score them loads of goals (tho he's never been prolific) - also can't work out why they're only discussing Al hamadi as backup, when they still have Chaplin and szmodics kicking around.

Their squad as a whole looks decent, but unsettled and I'm not sure that the ones they have left will tear things up in the way they seem to think. For them (and us) it'll be to do with how many of the team click with each other, and after a year of getting drubbed / underperforming, it'll be a while before we know if the business done/players retained are gonna work.

I think there's always the case that 'the lads will need a hand' - but I'd be reluctant to make any predictions on the current squads.
