The UK had more opt-outs to EU legislation than any other state

The UK had great influence. Unfortunately rather than drive reform to the EU which is what many other states were hoping and would have stood behind, we bailed out.

While I still cannot find any logic in why we felt there would be benefits to leaving the EU rather than leading reform, I really do hope that the reasons people voted were not on issues like VAT on tampons, while VAT on bog roll still isn't exactly causing riots.

At the time of Brexit, two of the most common arguments I heard for Brexit were, bizarrely, reduced immigration from OUTSIDE Europe and the expectation of considerable pay rises due to "cheap" Eastern Europeans being sent home. Of course then businesses would just print off some more money to give Brits pay rises and hire more Brits to fill the gaps or simply magic up the same profit levels with reduced staff numbers and increased wages.

What Brexit did for me was highlight the issues with education in Britain.
