We had appointed a respected, popular manager with a track record, quite different to the previous few (or even many) years' choices (Lambert being the exception). It was only after a season or so of perceived mediocrity that people decided he wasn't exciting enough, and that the club wasn't able to finance the next level. He was the ultimate in pragmatic managers for us, which is quite boring in itself, and I think pragmatism without investment in an ever evolving sport is ultimately going to lead to disappointment and disaffection. It did.
