The thing about the Hoff and team was

From the point where it felt like we were "worked out" by the analysts, we leaked goals like it was going out of fashion. It just felt sort of obvious when to press us, and where to attack us. Initially there were vast gaps in our defence, people out of position, which teams seemed well able to exploit. Once confidence and belief slipped then we also added people not working hard and people not doing their jobs. It's easy to blame the players, but if my boss put me in positions week after week where I was bound to make a mistake it would pretty quickly erode my capacity to turn up and do my best.

I can only think of one game where that wide open feel was addressed, and in that game we basically played very very defensive at the sacrifice of any attacking intent. Then we basically binned that off, and went back to how we were before, shipping loads of goals.

It just felt like there was never any adaptation of Plan A, a plan that resulted in us shipping way too many goals to ever achieve anything. That for me is ultimately where it all went wrong. You just can't ship that many goals, and then not do anything effective about it for months.
