i went to the titanic museum in belfast the other week

solid 8.5/10 on tombsadvisor, i was hoping for the "how long can you keep your hands immersed in the icy cold titanic water experience" i'd seen on sosh media but was sadly missing. the artefacts (stopped watch at the time she sunk etc) and the wall of victims names was very poignant. didn't know that they had forgot to take binos for the lookouts which contributed in part to the catastrophe, a pair of binos costing so many lives is just mental.

also, the radio operator of the nearest rescue ship to them (the ss californian) had gone to bed and turned their radio off just before the titanic sent out a mayday message so the next nearest rescue ship (carpathia) was 58 miles away. it is thought that had the californian recieved the s.o.s from the titanic maybe all the 1,517 lives could have been saved.

the final messages translated from morse code between the titanic and rescue ships are read out as you near the end of the exhibit and are quite moving.

"Come at once. We have struck a berg. It's a CQD (come quick distress), old man," the Titanic called to another ship, the Carpathia.

"We are putting passengers off in small boats. Women and children in boats. Cannot last much longer. Losing power," sent from Titanic as the situation grew ever more desperate.

"This is Titanic. CQD. Engine room flooded."

"Come quick. Engine room nearly full," was the final message

also the titanic museum building is quite beautiful and stands the same height as Titanics hull User Posted Link well worth a vist if you are ever in the north
