Is it not that actually comparable? Ok, we don’t have a James Maddison but who does. We also don’t have the millstones of players like Naismith and Pritchard.

We had some who had helped us but we needed to clear out like Hanley, Gibson, Fassnacht and Barnes which we did, like in 2017 when we had Jerome, Martin, Hoolahan, etc. We also continued with a few who were useful but coming to the end of their time, like Klose, Pinto, Raggett, and we have that this season with McLean, Duffy, Hernandez and possibly Sorensen.

The difference is that Farke signed players who had been talented but lost their way due to previous injuries, bad management or other reasons for losing their way. In some cases this turned out to be incredible and in other cases the players followed the same pattern when they arrived (Leitner a great example)

Thiorup’s gamble is slightly different. He’s signing young talented players.

But both are a numbers game. Some will work out and some will not. For every Pukki, we had a Husband, or a Watkins or a Marshall. That will continue, so I guess my point is that we need one or two more windows to be able to judge where the squad is going. And hope players like Sarge and Nunez can stay in the meantime.

Also we had parachute payments with Farke. With Thorup we’ve made it up by selling Kamara, Rowe and Sara.

Imagine the current squad but Sara in the Marcondes / Sinani role and Rowe for Crnac / Dobbin / Gordon / Onel / Schwartau.
