As usual you miss the point. It is there to correct obvious mistakes but

in itself makes mistakes. Where we used to debate the mistakes we now debate the VAR mistakes/decisions. But we now have extra time to debate them as we all drum fingers waiting. I'm just not sure it has made anything better... although I can see why TV loves it.
