What IS the point ? Especially if you're older than 17 and not a band trying to gain popularity ?

Serious question by the way.

I thought the good-old-fashioned personal website had already been rightly confined to the bin as a cry for attention. What difference is there between MySpace and having your own website (except looking like a 5 year old has built it) ?
