it's a bit quiet on here today, so i'll post about Rooney and the wc finals

martin peters makes a good point about rooney in the pinkun. he says that even if sven takes rooney and he's fit to play in the final, he'd be an idiot to drop whoever it is who gets us that far, so it's a no hoper. Best to leave the boy at home, i reckon.

Pretty sure that we could make a list of teams who relied on their injured star players (zidane, ronaldo and beckham spring to mind) and those who left them at home and got on with the job (no examples here, although the keane/ireland situation was a similar one), and it would be obvious what the correct decision should be.
