imagine that Sol had been running back, realised he wasn't going to make it, dived full length and grabbed Eto's ankle with his hand just outside the box. If that isn't serious foul play, then what is? And that's basically what Lehmann did. Once the keeper leaves the box, he's under the same laws about use of his hands as any other player.

In that situation, it seems to me the ref would have been quite within his rights to play an advantage, allow the goal, and show a red for serious foul play.
