Yesterday afternoon I binned a VHS to DVD converter

otherwise I would have volunteered to convert them for you or whoever wants them. I know a guy in Norwich who does digitises (any old recordings in whatever format) professionally (used to work for Anglia TV) if anyone is interested in taking them and getting them converted. He can easily do discs or USB stick. Loves a smell up the USB.
