It's more popular with younger drinkers I would guess
when I started on my beer journey as a teen the lighter flavoured lagers like bud were the beers of choice.
Then as I got older my tastes changed and I got into real ales etc. I hardly ever drink lager these days but I still wouldn't turn down a cold bottle of bud or whatever in the summer.
