Current parliamentary Conservative party is an entirely different entity

compared to even recent history. The party has been taken over by a small sect of extreme libertarian, Ayn Randian nutters. Seriously, they are far removed from any traditional Tory values. Which is why John Major, William Hague etc keep popping up to say wtf is going on. It's a sign of the times that people hear the s**t Truss/Kwarteng spouted and think "sounds brilliant!". But then our resident board conspiracy theorist seems to think its all great, so never under estimate the widespread stupidity of humankind.

Boris sowed the seeds for all this, by going down the Trumpian "I can lie about everything and as long as its funny/dog whistle/vaguely racist enough nobody cares and I get votes" path. Truss is the next evolution.

The good thing to come out of all of us is that this nation's experiment with some of the dark forces at play in the US has gone so badly so quickly, it will never be credible again. (well, all human things go in cycles once people forget, but this is done for as a political position for a while.)

The bad thing is that the country is now pretty f**ked after years of gross mismanagement, so any incoming government is going to be totally hamstrung. I do wonder if this was part of the plan!
