No, because they aren't only paid to clubs that were recently promoted
They go to anyone who is relegated, whether that's going to be new boys Nottingham Forest or recent title winners Leicester.
They're meant to give Prem clubs a soft landing so they can keep as many of their PL players as possible and scramble back up quickly.
If they were scrapped, the money saved wouldn't go to the 3 clubs who come up, it'd be spread out amongst the 20 through increased prize money.
It's a system loaded to benefit the EPL and if we hadn't been sucking from the teat so much so recently, we'd be whinging about them as much as anyone given our owners and funding model.
